Here, character trumps style.
The main attractions are all within walking distance of each other and you can see crayfish-catching boats and diamond-sucking trawlers bobbing along the boardwalk. The factories process the catches nearby and gulls perch on the hotel window sills. Besides walking along the main drag, there are two big to-dos which make Lamberts Bay throughly unique and have me hankering for another visit.
I would return to Lamberts Bay for this meal alone, it truly is the experience of a lifetime.
Bird Island Nature Reserve
Over the years numerous layabouts and scallywags, who wouldn't be missed, were abducted and put aboard vessels destined for the islands to scrape up the bird faeces as slaves, which was then sent back overseas with a large price tag. As part of the revamp, a recreated bunk room has been added to the visitor centre to show how guano collectors lived on the island.
I cannot wait to return to this unique West Coast dorpie and explore a whole lot more.
