Every year for my birthday, I've tried to go on a camping trip with friends, for my 25th I finally succeeded.
We were spoilt with a sunny day around a pool of our choice at Mountain Sanctuary Park - a 1000-hectare reserve in the Magaliesberg. I was worried about water levels, but there were still plenty in the West Pools for us to splash and splash into. We had picnics under the rocks in the shaded spots and only moved when an afternoon storm moved over our pristine spot.
The clouds came over, purple and menacing, then some rain pattered down so we hid under the rocks and made a dash back to camp - a spacious sprawling set up with a fireplace in the corner. Then the rain promptly stopped. So we pulled our chairs into a circle and watched the hills change colour as the sun disappeared.
We enjoyed a braai and some hushed games - security asked us to keep it down a bit - and we snoozed under nylon drapes until it became too hot the next morning. Thanks for sharing my birthday with me Magaliesberg.
